The Hyundai i30 hatchback is a stylish, smartly-dressed hatchback well known for its comfortable “big car” ride and efficient engines. In 2020, it received a facelift to bring its looks up to date for the new decade as well as introduce some new technology and trim levels. Those who do desire power might be tempted by the i30 N’s 271bhp engine, but that’s only available in the N model, the hottest form of this car. Long distance efficiency is delivered by the 1.6-litre diesel and its 134bhp output, capable of over 58mpg. All engines can be optioned with an automatic gearbox with 7 speeds, should you wish to have the car change gears on your behalf.
With 395-litres of boot space the Hyundai i30 hatchback has more cargo space than a Ford Focus or a Volkswagen Golf, but taller people can find the rear seats slightly more restricting. Inside there’s a smart designed dashboard and plenty of safety technology that the i30 has become well regarded for (it has a full 5 stars from Euro NCAP), and to drive the steering is focused on being light and less likely to fatigue the driver.
